Shannon (aka Jane) from Seagull Fountain is one of my newer blogging girlfriends. I first met her when she joined us as a guest Sassy for our SassyScoops.com review of West Light Images and Easy Street Brasserie. I could tell she was über intelligent and I’ll admit, I was a bit intimidated. But since then I’ve had a few more opportunities to talk with her, hang with her, even Chick-fil-A with her.
Shannon is beautiful and beautifully intelligent. I am a frequent commenter on her blog though I often feel like my comments are lame in comparison to her “I know there’s an even deeper meaning in there somewhere” writings. Yet she’s totally approachable, friendly and lovable. I’m hoping by associating as much as possible with her, some of her awesomeness will rub off on me. (And it is starting to rub off—I actually willingly turn the dial to NPR.)
Fortunately for me, Shannon thinks I’m sorta cool too. Or at least that I have sorta cool hair. In her recent post “Potpourri for a thousand” she gives a shout-out to a random list of things that have been on her mind. Along with an intriguing book (I have The Female Brain on hold at the local library thanks toher), Thanksgiving Point’s family engineering nights and some super cute Seagull Fountain buttons, you’ll find a couple snapshots of me. Yes, me…right there under “Hair Envy.” Apparently Shannon thinks my hair is pretty nifty, although she’d probably never use the word nifty. That’s totally me.
As I wrote in the comment on her post, if I could only pair my short, sassy hairstyle with her super sexy brainpower, I’d be totally set! Now for the ten reasons why I love Shannon from Seagull Fountain (in no particular order):
- She has a really great smile. {I can’t help but smile when she does.}
- She’s a deep thinker and yet somehow totally normal. {My definition of normal is a bit skewed but all the more reason to love her.}
- Shannon’s a bit irreverent. {I can totally relate.}
- She’ll drive all the way to remote Chick-fil-A for a playdate even if she doesn’t have any kids with her. {Um, I wish I could drive all the way to Chick-fil-A for a playdate without kids.}
- She listens to NPR and loves “Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me!” {I’m now a big fan of this Saturday show thanks to her.}
- Shannon philosophizes; she doesn’t pontificate. {Love that she and I have an inside joke thanks to Twitter.}
- She tweets…and tweets a lot…late at night. {It’s a sad night when I don’t catch an @seagullfountain tweet.}
- Shannon is all about educating herself on any and every subject and forming her own opinion based on what she learns, no matter what others may think. {We could all learn from her example.}
- She documents her dreams (pregnancy dreams rock!)—the crazier the better—and somehow makes sense of them. {Her dream posts are some of my favorites.}
- She likes my hair. Enough said.
If you’d like to challenge a few brain cells while enjoying a good chuckle, check out Shannon’s blog, Seagull Fountain. But don’t start doing a ton of commenting; I’m gunning for the top commenter spot!
And if you’re like me and would love to attend any and every workshop/class/seminar she teaches, you can hear her in person at the upcoming Casual Blogger Conference in May. (I just hope she’s not speaking the same time as Kristina from Pulsipher Predilections or I may have to be all spy-like and go back and forth stealthily between classes.)

I would love to get to know Shannon better.
And I know Sue and I are at the same time. I had a dream last week that only 5 people were at my panel!

Many a times I’m not even brave enough to leave a comment because I’m intimidated by her intelligence. Sometimes I just leave a quote from “What About Bob” and hope that’s good enough. :) Shannon really is a neat gal!
Steph
I love Shannon! I am so happy to have met her and proud to call her my friend. I really cannot do her justice with my sad vocabulary but I find her beyond amazing. As are you my Emily.

Sounds like someone good to know!
Shannon
Emily! You’re not allowed to do posts like this! (How will I ever stop blushing?)
Thanks for thinking I am smart; it helps my fragile ego immensely. ;p And I think you are uber intelligent too (I mean, you even know how to put the two dots on top of the u — it doesn’t get any more savvy than that!). I hope by stalking you for your hair I haven’t given the impression that I don’t appreciate your mind, too. I do! (It’s just your hair really is super totally the best.)
Anyway, thanks for saying such nice things. I’m going to print out your post to read whenever I need a boost. Maybe I’ll frame it and hang it in my bathroom, since I’m in there approximately forty times a day!
Love you!
Emily
Kristina, I have a feeling more than five people will attend your panel. And yes, you need to get to know Shannon better. She’s awesome!
Camille, I love that you leave quotes from “What About Bob?” That’s one of my all-time faves!
Steph, you, my dear, are beyond amazing yourself. Muah!
Susie, you definitely need to check out her site. She’s great!
Shannon, it’s my goal in life to make you blush as often as possible. By all means print out this post and have it matted and framed. I’m sure I have a coupon for Robert’s framing around here somewhere… and it’s all true, babe!
Natasha
I quite like her, too. ;-)
Emily
It would take a lot of effort to not like Shannon! By the way, thanks for stopping by ITRML!

Awwww, Shannon is such a sweetheart! I love her, too! Loved this post, Em, and – Shannon’s right – your hair TOTALLY rocks!
