I’ve thrown only two surprise birthday parties in my life. The first was Nathan’s 40th birthday and the guy didn’t have a clue about the party or his friends’ arrivals from Washington and Arizona. The second was Madison’s 18th birthday and she also didn’t have a clue, an amazing feat considering it involved teenagers who talk and text and socialize 24/7.
I’m still patting myself on the back.
I don’t know if you’re aware, but 18-year-old girls can be pretty picky, so I had a bit of anxiety over how to decorate for her party. I decided to go with a simple color theme with even simpler decorations, and by decorations I mean coordinating plates, napkins and plastic flatware. I threw in a couple tissue paper flowers, candy sticks and some kraft cards on which friends could write a memory or two they shared with the birthday girl. All of that was lovely, but what I was most excited about—and what was more surprising than the surprise party—were the MY M&M’s I designed for the occasion.
I chose the three colors I used in her party decor (blue, orange and white) and used three different sets of text. But the very best part was uploading a photo and having that image screened onto those M&M’s.
I was pleased as punch when they arrived. It was probably the hardest thing to keep secret, and not just because that apothecary jar (also found on MY M&M’s) was so dang cute.
Everyone, teenagers and adults alike, thought those custom M&M’s were awesome. Granted, Madison felt it a bit weird at first to have her face on the side of a piece of chocolate coated with a candy shell…and have people eat those candy pieces. But no one had a problem taking bagfuls of the MY M&M’s home.
And Madison didn’t have a problem eating them by the handfuls later that night.
I’ve decided MY M&M’S are perfect for special occasions because they show a bit of thoughtfulness combined with a bit of creativity. You can use them as I did (part décor, part favor) or you can give them as a gift. Think about how much fun it would be to give personalized holiday M&M’s to your neighbors!
Here’s another fun way someone has used MY M&M’s:
With 25 different colors and the ability to upload images, the options are endless when it comes to creating personalized M&M’s.
