Shot@Life: 28 Days of Impact

February 1, 2013 by Emily Hill 6 Comments

Remember when I told you one child dies every 20 seconds from a disease that could have been prevented with an inexpensive vaccine? And then I went on to tell you about how your $20 donation to Shot@Life gives a child a lifetime of immunity from pneumonia, diarrhea, polio and measles.

Think about it…for the cost of two movie tickets, you could immunize a child for life.

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, then you know how excited I am to be a Shot@Life Champion. I’ll be traveling to Washington D.C. in less than two weeks for the Shot@Life Champion Summit where I will receive training in media, advocacy and event planning so I can be an effective (i.e., compelling, energetic, forceful, powerful) Shot@Life ambassador.

Nine days and counting. I can hardly wait.

Shot@Life 28 Days of Impact
…

Today Shot@Life kicks off their 28 Days of Impact, a blog relay celebrating the impact vaccines have on children in developing countries:

[28 Days of Impact] is a month-long celebration of the impact of global vaccines and of the work being done by partners to get vaccines to the children who need them most. Each day in February, we will share incredible stories about the impact that vaccines have on people around the world.

Today’s post is by Cecily from Uppercase Woman. She tells the story of Rukhsar, a two-year-old who is India’s last known case of polio.

Bet you didn’t know we’re still fighting polio.

28 Days of Impact—28 stories that will touch your heart and hopefully encourage you to support the cause. It can be as easy as sending an email to your members of congress asking them to make sure global health and vaccines are a priority in the new Congress.

I totally emailed my congressmen today. All I did was tweak this sample Shot@Life letter, Google my congressmen (you’re right, I should have known who they were; baby steps, people) and send a few emails.

It took less than 10 minutes.

Vaccines can level the playing field so that all children, no matter their circumstances, have a shot at a healthy life.

…
If you’re on the Twitter and want to support 28 Days of Impact, we’re using the hashtag #vaximpact. Heck, I even have some sample tweets you can use:
