Today’s green smoothie recipe is by Taralyn Parker from Keep Moving Forward With Me. And this recipe sounds like a definite keeper!
When I first started drinking green smoothies, I was quite the stickler for following recipes. If I was out of a specific ingredient, my green smoothie for the day was a no-go. One day after bemoaning a missing ingredient in a delicious avocado smoothie, I went out on a limb and began experimenting with what I had on hand. The recipe below is what I came up with:
Kiwi Banana Orange Smoothie
2 frozen bananas
2 small spoonfuls of orange juice concentrate
4 ounces coconut water
Cup of ice
Handful of spinach
Blend and enjoy! This smoothie recipe made two servings, but you could easily adjust it for more.
So next time you are worried about not having the right ingredients … just go for it! This is one of the most refreshing smoothies I have made. It was nice to use up my kiwis (I’ve never loved eating them as is) and also my spinach that was starting to wilt. Added bonus is that my kiddos enjoyed their “Shrek Juice!”
Here are some of my favorite smoothie ingredients to have on hand to mix and match with:
- Base: Greek Yogurt, Regular Yogurt, Ice, Frozen Bananas
- Liquid: coconut water, orange juice, milk
- Fruits: any frozen fruit!
- Veggies: spinach, kale
- Protein: flax seed powder, peanut butter, Greek yogurt
