Do you remember my healthy after-school snacks post featuring cheese & pepperoni stackers and mini banana sliders?
In that photo you see a simple white plate, sweet little dessert bowl and the cutest green drinking glass situated atop a fun woven place mat. I snagged all of these from my cabinet of food props…but not before snagging them from IKEA.
During the August SNAP! Blogger Mixer, I enjoyed my very first IKEA breakfast complete with French toast sticks, cinnamon roll and something healthy I’m sure. After enjoying breakfast (and a little socializing with Carrian, who makes the best breakfast buddy), I was able to tour the new store layout. I actually thought the new design made a lot more sense but it did take some getting used to if you’re an IKEA regular.
I’ll never get used to their shopping carts, no matter how innovative the design.
Those who attended the SNAP! event were given a $25 gift card to spend on whatever they’d like in the store. While most of the gals had something super crafty in mind, my brain totally didn’t go that direction. Instead, I opted for improving my amateur food prop collection.
I started off following Lindsey from Cafe Johnsonia, watching the items she put into her cart. (She knew I was there, so it’s not as creepy as it sounds.) I may have picked up a couple of the same bowls (pictured at left below) because they were so darn cute.
The tall glass jug in the background was a result of my desire to be twinners with Carrian of Oh Sweet Basil (also not creepy because I received her blessing on the copycat purchase). Believe it or not, the rest of the items I chose all on my own. Here’s what I picked up that day—and yes, I spent way over my $25 gift card. I bought more than food props that day. No surprise there.
- 4 white bowls (2 plain; 2 fluted)
- 1 small rectangular tray
- 1 small square plate (pictured in snack photo)
- 1 clear glass dessert bowl (pictured in snack photo)
- 1 green “daisy” drinking glass
- 1 small candy jar with lid
- 1 large jug/bottle
What you don’t see pictured is the medium-sized glass jar I also picked up at IKEA that day. It looked like this:
You wouldn’t believe how hard it is to remove those display tags. Took me days. And I nearly broke a nail. How the guy at checkout let this one slip through is beyond me. (It could’ve been the long line of bloggers anxious to check out because their child’s time in the IKEA Smaland daycare was quickly running out.)
Fortunately I finally removed the tag and the glass jar sits nicely with the rest of my food props in the hall cabinet. What a cute family they make in there!
Want to see what other bloggers designed using items found at their local IKEA store? Head over to the SNAP! IKEA Draper event recap and check out the project link-up. I’ll be busy eating IKEA cinnamon rolls. Or wishing I were.
Feel free to “like” is this REALLY my life? on Facebook. It won’t earn you an extra entry in any giveaway but it will give you warm fuzzies. Even better.
Disclosure: IKEA provide us with breakfast and a $25 gift card to use in the store. Even if it had been a $50 gift card, I’d have gone over budget. That’s how I roll.
