Of course you could totally complete that sentence in so many other ways, like:
…drives each other crazy by day three.
But even if you call them “family adventures” rather than “family vacations” (vacation?!? what vacation?), summertime is the perfect opportunity to vacay—or staycay—with the family.
This summer we’ll be traveling to California for our annual trip to visit my parents. This trip will include a stop at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom theme park in Vallejo, complete with refillable amusement park mugs and overpriced cotton candy. With the cost of tickets, food and souvenirs, we’ll need to start saving now so we can enjoy every exhausting minute at the park.
Throw in a possible Magic Kingdom trip in September and you’re talking some serious saving. Fortunately we have more than enough crap stuff that would sell well on eBay, and family trips to Six Flags AND Dinseyland (hello, new Cars Land!) makes for a serious incentive plan.
If you have a family vacation or staycation in mind and could use a little extra spending money for the trip, consider making selling on eBay a group effort. Let your kids know they can keep whatever profit they make for items they sell on eBay—you won’t believe the toys and electronics they’re willing to part with for the sake of making a little extra cash!
And I bet you could easily find some items worth “trading” for that upgrade to a hotel suite complete with extra bedroom and locking door.
Here are some ideas of items selling well on eBay right now:
- Sporting goods (golf clubs, tennis rackets, athletic apparel, bikes, skis)
- Seasonal clothing (swimsuits, maxi anything, skirts, summer dresses, sandals)
- Patriotic outfits and accessories
- Electronics and toys (always a hot item no matter the season)
- Travel gear (luggage, computer and camera cases, name-brand carriers)
- Back-to-school items (I know, right? But the end of June through July and August are great months for selling items like shoes, backpacks, sweaters and jackets for fall.)
Yes, you can even sell larger items like watercraft, bicycles and camping gear on eBay thanks to eBay Classifieds. You can also opt for “local pickup only” when listing an item that wouldn’t ship well (or would cost your entire vacation budget to send via UPS).
So spend a Saturday going through the garage and a few closets. I bet you’ll put together an impressive pile of items to list on eBay. You could even make one of those barometer goal chart thingies to keep track of your progress because you know, the family that sells together, plays together.
And eats cotton candy.
And sports matching Mickey Mouse ears.
