What is a Chicken Tempura roll?

Chicken Tempura Roll Sushi doesn't have nori seaweeds as an ingredient in it, actually, this sushi consists of almonds, chicken mixture alongside green onion, red pepper, and orange strips. the chicken mixture is made by mixing juice concentrate, soy sauce, ginger, pepper flakes, and oil, then dipping chicken strips in them.

If you tried different sushi rolls before like Tiger Roll, Volcano Roll, or even Dragon Roll then you will definitely know how to take care of this Chicken Tempura roll, I mean let's be honest except the decoration that may be kinda difficult like the Dragon Roll case, making different sushi rolls is almost the same the ingredients is the only thing that changes.

Is Chicken Tempura Roll Sushi Healthy

Yes, Chicken Tempura rolls sushi is one of the healthiest sushi rolls that you may find out there, it doesn't have any raw meat in it which makes it a great meal for all of your family.

If you are making any different sushi rolls like Alaskan Roll that has raw meat is it, it's actually not recommended to serve it to a pregnant woman, older, and kids as there is a low chance that they may get sick from parasites, food poisoning, or mercury ingestion which is associated with eating raw fish.

However, I hope I didn't scare you but eating raw fish in sushi is perfectly safe to eat when you know to correctly prepare it, I mean people have been eating sushi for centuries without getting sick.

    Chicken Tempura Roll Instructions

    Cooking the Rice

    1. Take a large bowl and wash the rice in it with cold water until the water is clear then transfer it to a large saucepan.
    2. You need to add 2 cups of water to the saucepan and let the rice stand for 30 minutes.
    3. Next, cover the saucepan and bring it to boil over high heat, then reduce heat to low and let the rice cook for about 15 to 20 minutes or until the water is absorbed and rice is tender.
    4. Remove the saucepan from the heat cover it and let it rest for 10 minutes.
    5. Meanwhile, take a small bowl and combine into it vinegar, sugar, and salt, then start stirring until sugar is dissolved.
    6. Transfer your sushi rice to a shallow bowl and sprinkle it with ⅓ cup of vinegar mixture, set aside the remaining vinegar mixture for the assembly.
    7. With the use of a wooden paddle or spoon, go ahead and stir the rice with a slicing motion until cooled then cover it with a damp cloth to keep it moist.

    Cooking the chicken tenders

    1. Now you need to bake the chicken according to the package directions, but I prefer using the air fryer to cook my chicken tenders as it's easier and faster than the oven.
    2. After your chicken tenders are cooked, allow them to cool down then cut into long thin strips.
    3. Next, take a large bowl and combine into it the juice concentrate, soy sauce, ginger, pepper flakes, and oil, take ½ cup of the mixture and set it aside for serving.
    4. Add your chicken to the remaining orange mixture and start tossing the strips in order to coat.

    Making Chicken Tempura Roll

    1. Start by covering the sushi mat with plastic wrap for easier cleanup, then you want to spread ¼ cup almonds evenly over the plastic wrap to a 9-in. x 6-in. rectangle.
    2. Next, moisten your hands with the reserved vinegar mixture then start pressing the rice in a thin even layer over almonds.
    3. After that arrange a small amount of chicken mixture alongside green onion, red pepper, and orange strips about 1-½ in. from the bottom edge of the rectangle.
    4. While holding the bamboo mat, go ahead and start rolling the rectangle away from you, making sure to enclose the filling with rice and applying some pressure to help you squeeze the roll into a compact log.
    5. Finally, remove the mat then set the Chicken Tempura Roll on a cutting board and slice the roll into pieces, serve with the reserved sauce or any sauce of your choice.

    Recipe Tips

    • Sushi vinegar substitute: If you don’t have sushi vinegar, you simply replace it with a mixture of white vinegar, sugar, and salt.
    • Cooking the perfect sushi rice: For the best results, I recommend using high-quality short-grain Japanese rice for this recipe.
    • Prevent the rice from sticking to your hands: Tezu is a hand dipping liquid that will prevent the rice from sticking to your hand, you can make it by mixing ¼ cup water and 2 teaspoons rice vinegar.
    • Prevent sushi rolls from falling apart: Make sure to give the roll a gentle squeeze while rolling, once you are finished, place the bamboo mat over the sushi roll and gently squeeze the roll again.
