If you haven’t heard the story of Coco (i.e., how two very anti-pet parents came to buy a dog for their 11-year-old daughter), it’s worth the read.
So now we’ve had Coco for two years and she is my very most favorite lap warmer. I may even catch myself talking to her like adults talk to newborns. It’s kind of a problem
Lauren still loves and adores Coco…even if she forgets to feed her from time to time. When Coco turned two in October (she shares a birthday with Madison), Lauren was all over baking some sort of treat—a cupcake for dogs. She scoured the Interwebs and finally found this recipe for banana pupcakes. She baked up a batch, topped them with a bit of Goldfish cracker flair and voilà, the perfect banana cupcakes for dogs!

I know this isn’t the most festive of holiday recipes, but if you are a dog owner and would love to bake up something extra special, these dog-friendly banana cupcakes would be the perfect treat. Just don’t put them under the Christmas tree or the entire dozen may be gone and then you’ll have a nice mess to clean up Christmas morning.
And nobody wants to clean up a mess Christmas morning.
Our house looks trashed for at least two days and I swear I find bits of tissue and ribbon for weeks after the mayhem.

Hi! How long will these last, should they be refrigerated, frozen?
Emily Hill
They can be stored, covered, at room temperature for a day or so but for best storage, I would place in a covered container in the refrigerator. We haven’t tried freezing them but I bet they’d work great that way!
Amelia Kennedy
Looks easy
Emily Hill
They really are!
Hanah
Hey when they are refrigerated, do they still only last a day?
Emily Hill
We haven’t tried refrigerating them but I bet they’d last at least a 3 or 4 days in the fridge.
Terri
What kind of flour did you use. Can wheat flour be used.
Emily Hill
We used all-purpose flour. I’m not sure about wheat flour. As long as wheat flour is safe for dogs, I’m sure it’s okay. It will probably make for a denser cupcake, so plan on that!
Laura R.
I would suggest using Brown rice flour and coconut flour as most dogs can have an allergy to wheat and all purpose flour.
Emily Hill
Great suggestion!
yara
can we use cake flour instead pls answer asap?
Emily Hill
I haven’t tried it with cake flour. You could give it a try!
yara
does it depend the type of honey?
Emily Hill
I don’t believe it does. I use raw honey but I’m sure clover honey would work too.
Donna Faith
Can you just make cake out of this? will it turn out the same?
Emily Hill
I’ve never tried it so I’m not sure. Sorry!

Has anyone made this and gave it to their dog for their birthday???? My dogs birthday is on January 14th on a Sunday. I just might make this.
Jenna
Do you know how long I should put them in the oven for if I want to make mini cupcakes? My dog is a messy eater so a mini version of this would be better.
Emily Hill
I’m not totally sure. I would check around 12-15 minutes and test for doneness. Hope that helps!
