I have been dying to share this diaper cake with you ever since I hosted my sister’s baby shower in April. Just look at it—have you ever seen anything so fabulous in all your life?
This diaper caked was created by none other than Molly, the same friend who came up with the ingenious idea of a one-sheet and color storyboard to help coordinate outfits for family photos. She also wrote the most awesome family newsletter EVER.
She is an inspiration on so many levels. (You should see her throw a bridal shower.)
Because this was my sister’s first baby (and a girl), I begged asked Molly to create a diaper cake to coordinate with the red and turquoise colors I’d chosen for the baby shower. And if it all possible, it had to have polka dots…or polka spots as we like to call them.
I may have bribed her with Diet Coke as well.
I’m pretty sure Molly found the cutest fabric currently in existence and then created the most adorable, “holy crap are those hair bows?!” diaper cake EVER.
Sure, the cake had diapers but it also had handmade hair bows and burp cloths, bottle brushes, rubber duckies, socks, teething rings, pacifiers, handmade tutu skirt, ruffled onesie and a pair of the most to-die-for Mary Janes.
In red patent leather, no less.
Molly was totally cool with me posting the ins and outs of her phenomenal diaper cake as long as I broke it down so you could see exactly what was involved. In the past she would get frustrated with diaper cakes found online because they showed only the finished product.
Though the photos below aren’t staged all fancy (at the rate I was going, Megan’s baby would’ve outgrown the diapers before I returned the cake), I hope they give you a good idea of the items Molly used in creating this one-of-a-kind diaper cake.
I’m pretty sure I owe her a lifetime supply of Diet Coke. And then some.
- Wood “S” (Michael’s)
- Red patent leather Mary Jane baby showers
- Hair bows (handmade)
- Tutu skirt (handmade)
Clockwise from left:
- Burp cloths (handmade)
- Bottle brushes
- Rubber ducks ($1 aisle at Target; I’ve seen multiple colors on Oriental Trading’s site)
- Teething rings
- Hair bow (handmade)
- Baby socks
- Bib (handmade)
The base was a basic diaper cake. She wrapped the diapers in the coordinating fabric…
…and then filled it in with crinkle paper and tulle.
I’m pretty sure this diaper cake has put all other diaper cakes to shame.
